The life of ryan

My friend ryan sewell is on the verge of becoming a pro body boarder, he lives a life of no else i have ever met. He is repulsed at the idea normal society and how people can live there lives with limits and boundaries. He doesn’t have a job, he still lives at home with his mum and he goes surfing every day, livening the life.

1: “the search” early morning wake ups travailing up and down the coast line looking for the best places to surf. Visiting places like “sandy cracks, slut bay, second car parks”

2:”pooping” before going out in the surf there is always a mandatory crap in the bush. Evan tho there is toilet facility less than a minute walk away.

3:”barrel” the search is over the moment that has been anticipating all morning has come. going down the face of the perfect wave ,watching it form in front to create the perfect barrel.

4:”no swell” after a few hours and the swell has dropped off and the wind has changed its time to get out and dry off and have some brekkie to start the day.

5:”swing” hanging around playing on children’s play equipment without a care in the world despite being “to old” to play on them.

6:”lazzy” after a tiering surf and mucking around on the play equipment its time to recuperate by relaxing on top of the lounge, its always much comfier than lying on the lounge regularly

7:”music” having a life of no major commitments means there’s a lot of spare time and what better way to fill that void with music

8:”bed side table” by having all the things you need at the reach of you bed side table why get out of bed than? Kettle to make noodles or tea and a bong at the connivance of a arm reach

9:”daily necessity” listening to music getting stoned has slowly became a bit of a necessity. I asked Ryan if i could show these photos to my teachers and he replied “ yea man, it’s so chilled I don’t care I’m not ever going to meet them”

10:”routine” when its night time he routinely retires to his mate harko place called the “den” it called this because its dark and gloomy and resembles a cave or den. Late at night when everyone has gorn to bed the atmosphere is bleak and lonely

this photo is of my mum and my brother when i was 3 years old in 1993, i have no recollection where this was taken at all but im prity sure its when we lived at south heads on the south coast.

The main idea for my documentary folio is to follow where the sun is and what people do around that time of the day. I’m choosing to do this down at the south coast because people from this area live such a different life style and the sun has such a profound effect on the people who live there.

I would start it by going with some of my friends who wake up at the crack of dawn to go surfing because the wind and tide is at its best during this time of the day.
I’m aiming to capture some action shots of them surfing with a nice sunrise in the back ground. After the surfing shots I was thinking of getting images of kids getting ready for a big day of school with their bags on, tying up there shoe laces or maybe waiting for the bus.
My girlfriends’ mother owns the local flower shop in Moruya and I was thinking of getting some shots of her setting up her flower displays for the day.

It should be around mid day by this time so the sun would be high in the sky and my friend who is a pilot he does daily flights all around the coast. I was thinking of creating some shots of him doing his daily flights.
Then after those shots I was thinking of maybe heading to the beach and getting some shots of my friend who spends a lot of time at the beach because she doesn’t have a job and rarely goes to school. I was hoping to get some pictures of her sitting on the rocks with head phones on.
It should be around 3 o’clock by then and I would go to the high school and get shots of people leaving school and heading home after a big day.
It holpely should be geting dark at around 5ish so I was thinking of getting some shots of fishermen in the sun set casting out into the beach.
At 7 or 8 I’ll try and get some shots of people having dinner and watching t.v. After the family photos i would then get some shots of girls getting ready to go out to a party or something like putting on mascara in the mirror i think it should be a good contrast to the family siting down haveing a nice dinner and the girls going out geting drunk.
To sum it im going to try and get shots of some of my friends who sit around and hang out and play music till late hours of the night maybe them playing music on the beach with a fire.
im hopeing this could be a good a good documentary on how people live there life in a place so close but so different.
